SOLAR PROJECT
On February 11, 2018, the congregation of Pittsboro Presbyterian Church hosted “Solar Sunday”, a celebration of their installation of a 12.47kW, 43 panel rooftop solar array. The system has the potential to annually produce 16,991 kWh of electricity, offset electrical energy use by 70%, garner a savings of $1763.00 and reduce the carbon footprint to the equivalent of 20,274 miles not driven.
The event was the culmination of a multi-year project by PPC’s Eco-Justice group to help the Church lead in the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources (such as solar power). It is their belief that at this critical moment in history, caring for Creation means becoming wise and vocal energy evangelists. It is their hope that the solar panel installation will not only reduce the church’s dependence on fossil fuel based energy and cut electrical energy costs, but will also inspire and energize others to “go solar,” and to do so sooner rather than later.
