If I had my ‘druthers’ at the start of a new year of Creation Justice blogging…
- I ‘druther’ be spinning tales about the great progress humanity has made over the past year/s in turning our Mother-ship Earth around from the chaotic climate course we’ve set her on.
- I ‘druther’ be extolling the virtues of leaders on both sides of the political/ideological aisle coming together in solidarity to battle the greatest common foe humanity has ever faced, the climate crisis of our own making.
- I ‘druther’ be seeing a planetary hour glass that is half full and predicting that it will be getting fuller by the day.
But, alas, all such ‘druthering’ cannot change reality. All the wishing in the world cannot alter the progression of the global warming catastrophe, a debacle that we willfully fuel through our dead-end ‘business-as-usual’ approach to unjustly mismanaging the finite natural resources that the only known living planet in the universe affords us.
And so it is that we begin the year of our Lord, 2022, with another unwanted, yet needed, dose of crisis reality with the airing of a new PBS documentary ominously and correctly titled EARTH EMERGENCY. Believe me, I’ve seen my share of climate crisis documentaries, enough that I wondered what yet another could offer. After viewing it I thought that a fun and silly children’s song could be used as an alternate title to capture the essence of the documentary’s message: Here We Go Loopty-Loo.
More than any other documentary I’ve seen, EARTH EMERGENCY tells the story of our human activity that is setting off the dangerous process of ‘feedback warming loops’ that are pushing the climate toward ‘tipping points’ of no return, and what we need to do to stop them. I hope you’ll “put your whole self in” and give it a look after reading this blog post. And to further understand the grave consequences of these ominous climate feedback loops, consider reading an informative article from the Climate Reality Project website HERE.
If you aren’t already familiar with the Climate Reality Project, your visit to their website will acquaint you with the critical informative work they do to educate folks like me and you. Their climate loop article ends with a “What you can do” section and this:
Before You Go
At Climate Reality, we work hard to create high-quality educational content like blogs, e-books, videos, and more to empower people all over the world to fight for climate solutions and stand together to drive the change we need. We are a nonprofit organization that believes there is hope in unity, and that together, we can build a safe, sustainable future.
But we can’t do it without your help.
If you enjoyed what you’ve just read and would like to see more, please consider making a generous gift to support our ongoing work to fight climate denial and support solutions.
That preceding paragraph serves as a segue and “preview of coming attractions’” to announce a new Creation Justice blog series for 2022. The Climate Reality Project is just one of thousands of organizations across the globe that are championing the cause of creation justice. In the coming year our blog will highlight some of the local and regional champions that are fighting the good fight for creation justice. Leading off our Creation Justice Champions series will be an organization that in 2022 will be celebrating its 40th year of service to nearly a million residents across 8 counties and with Chatham as their home base.
